A picture of me climbing Delicat at Stony Edge

Delicat

30th March 2025 @ Stony Edge, 6A

Beta seen on GCW’s video, but not referenced for the climb. I had climbed this quite a lot in both this and a previous session.

Probably one of my favourite shots of the video, with Warland reservoir in the middleground and the moors seen in the background. In previous years, the area in front of this boulder has been overgrown with ferns. I turned up in February 2025 to see that all the foliage had been cut back or died off. I’m ignorant as to the reason (it wasn’t me, promise!). It does make for a more pleasant experience though, and a better camera shot!

The problem looks deceptively easy, at least for me. There are three footholds I use, and I really did have to learn to trust them to support my ~95kg of body weight (more lime 90kg these days). However, the more time I spent with them, the more confident I felt. Eventually I got it to the state where I could climb it pretty quickly and make it look fairly easy.

It’s been a while since I’ve been on it, so I think if I tried it again, I would be spending a similar amount of time learning to trust those feet again. Along with Jiggery Slopery, probably almost a perfect beginner-ish experience, and compliments Jiggery Slopery very will, with them being opposite styles. If you find it a little hard, RB to the left of it is a little easier, if a little taller, and is good to build some confidence on.

I suppose the only other thing is the pebble pulling I’m doing on it. It would be good to find some other holds for the hands, or potentially go without hands altogether (probably a bit beyond me).

An early clip shot in March. Problems with auto focus ruined it. When I returned, I was rewarded with one of the nicest shots in the video, although the wind did blow my tripod over. My phone went face first into a rock, and I lived with a gradually deteriorating smashed screen for six months before I finally caved and bought a new phone.
