A picture of me climbing The Kingdom Of Slope at Blackstone Edge

The Kingdom Of Slope

30th March 2025 @ Stony Edge, 6B+

I’d seen at least one video, I think from GCW, before attempting it, but didn’t consult for the send. Maybe some moves went in subconciously though. I’d climbed this before in 2024, and the ascent in the video was quite well practiced.

I really like this problem. Again, one climbed first in 2024 (I think Andrew Dixon probably recommended it too me), but I wanted to include it in this video. I really enjoyed working out the beta I use, particularly for the second half. This was over a couple of sessions. I do a couple of things differently from GCW’s video. One is I start a bit differently (I start matched on a good ridge as suggested in the guide, but GCW’s video shows you can pull on crouched underneath this before coming out to it), but I don’t think that impacts the difficulty much. The other thing is that rather than going straight to the top from the right foot, I go out to the right, back flag, and then go left hand to the top. This is a bit of a tricky move, the right hand is OK but slopey and I found it slipped off around half the time. The right foot is slopey too, so a balance has to be found between the two, or else one will slide off.

The top can feel a bit awkward, but I was really happy with the sequence I found which doesn’t feel too bad. Gaining the lip with a guppy-ish undercling felt pretty secure. The alternative is to fight the slopes which can end in a spot of whaling. Fun, but I only had so much of Freyja’s music to set these climbs to, so it was best that I got the top done quickly!

Again, one worth taking a look at if you ever make it to Stony.
